Costain CapabilityFront End Solutions
Costain offers conceptual and front end design services through its dedicated front end solutions group. The group is managed by a core of process specialists who have extensive experience in taking a customer's functional requirements and providing an optimal solution. As these specialists are experienced at all stages of the project's life they can help highlight and solve critical issues early in the design phase.
The group has a close working relationships with relevant technology licensors and with their own technical knowledge of CCS can provide valuable insight into technology selection and application. They have a track record of innovation and energy efficient design, considering overall energy integration and plant optimisation. The front end solutions group are integrated with our process department and make extensive use of advanced process modelling programs. Costain has extensive in-house prediction programs for gas processing, including carbon dioxide, covering multi-component thermodynamic and physical properties. Project Development
Execution
Costain as a multi-discipline engineering design and build contractor can provide a full range of services at the EPC phase, including consultancy, engineering, project management, procurement, construction, commissioning and decommissioning. With vast experience in gas processing and underground gas storage, we understand technical, authoritative and regulatory issues, which enable us to manage and execute CCS projects from concept to construction. |
The Costain 'BE SAFE' campaign drives our approach to SHE throughout project execution. This has led to several prestigious RoSPA awards, including the President's Award for over 15 years of outstanding safety performance. This approach has been recognised and embraced by our customers, and reflected in the collaborative approach adopted on each project.
Costain operates an accredited Environmental Management System. At the design phase of a project, our aim is to minimise the potential production of effluents through techniques such as Process Simulation, Cost Benefit Analysis and Operability Analysis.
Costain has over 60 years experience of successfully delivering gas handling and treatment plant and facilities worldwide. This capability is underpinned by rigorous project controls including planning, risk assessment and cost management which at all stages of the project are fully transparent to the customer.

Costain has a flexible approach to project procurement, with a specific intent to fully align with the customer's own strategy. Our project experience includes procuring equipment 'for and on behalf of' customers as well as placing orders directly. 
From site mobilisation to mechanical completion, Costain has a comprehensive construction management capability. Regular constructability reviews throughout the project lifecycle deliver ease of commissioning and assured plant startup. An integrated team approach, involving the customer from the outset, embeds operability and maintainability into the process and plant design.
